Here are my January 2012 shopping totals.  Our budget is $200 per payday which is every 2 weeks.

1st week of January – $153.94

2nd week of January – $39.46

3rd week of January – $167.54

4th week of January – $21.46

5th week of January – $146.08

For the month of January I spent a grand total of $528.48.  Since I normally spend around $150+ the first week of payday and $50- the second week of payday we are starting out February with the smaller week.

I know that alot of people spend a specific amount each week and I could do $100 each week and then I wouldn’t have higher months and lower months.  However I live 20+ miles from the good stores, so one week I drive to town and shop and that is the week that I spend the $150+.  On the second week I just stay here in my little town and run to either Walmart or Save a Lot and spend $50-.

This works for me.  I know that because of the way I do it that some months will seem high and others will seem low, but it in the end it will all even out to $200 a payday or less.
