I have been toying around with the idea of having specified categories for each day of the week hoping that would help to streamline my shopping and scheduling process even more.  I posed the question on facebook this morning if others thought this type of planning would be beneficial and several of you thought it was a good idea.  So I decided to give it a try.

I have been mulling over our weekly schedules trying to figure out the best categories for the right day of the week and I think I have come up with a winner.

No Fuss Monday -  right now through our Church Christmas program Emeri and I have choir practice every Monday night, not only that Emeri actually is double booked with Madrigal practice for school.  Monday is also a busy day for me since I always seem to be catching up from a busy weekend.  Between laundry, housework, blogging etc my day is busy.  So for now, at least until after Christmas Monday will be No Fuss Monday.  This can mean anything from a frozen pizza to soup and sandwiches.  After Christmas I will reevaluate this one.

Soup/Stew Tuesday:  Tuesday’s I am gone most of the day so this is a perfect day to put a soup or stew in the crockpot in the morning and come home to a meal.  This will work through the Spring however it will have to be changed when summer comes around.

Breakfast Wednesday: On Wednesday evenings my husband is one of the bus drivers at Church for the different childrens classes.  He has to be at the Church at 5pm, often my girls go with him at that time.  I arrive at Church at 6pm.  Because we are not all home until around 8:30 – 9pm we eat beforehand, usually by 4 or 4:30.  Most weeks I have been making something breakfast related anyway because it is fast.

Meatless Thursday: There is no particular reason for this one other than the fact I like to try and have at least one meatless dinner a week.

Splurge Friday: Friday has been our “splurge” day for years.  We can do whatever we what on this day, within reason of our budget of course.  ;)   We may go out to eat, get take out, order a pizza or the girls may request me to buy something specific when I grocery shop that I rarely buy.

Mexican Saturday: I am choosing Mexican on Saturday because A) my family loves tacos, burritos, etc B) sometimes it is difficult to want to cook on Saturday but if it is something we love and relatively easy I think it will help.

Crockpot Sunday: Sunday is a busy and wonderful day and some weeks we are only home for such a short time so I need to get in the habit of putting a meal in the crockpot that morning so we come home to a good meal and we aren’t tempted to go out to eat.

So here is my plan for the week;

Breakfast options:  Fruit, yogurt, dry cereal, oatmeal, eggs, bacon, sausage

Lunch Options:  PB&J, Meat/veggies on whole wheat tortillas, fruit/veggies, yogurt, cheese, nuts, blue corn chips

Dinners:

No Fuss Monday: Frozen Pizza

Soup/Stew Tuesday: Vegetable Beef Soup (I will actually be using ground turkey)  I will be using my tried and true method for veggie soup.  Put a pound of ground meat, broth, any and all veggies you have on hand, lots of spices in a crockpot and let it cook all day.  Yummo  ;)

Breakfast Wednesday: Breakfast Burritos – Whole Wheat tortillas, organic eggs, bacon, salsa, cheese with  fruit on the side

Meatless Thursday: Spicy Beans and Rice, Corn on the cob

Splurge Friday: Hubby and I date night, girls will have take out.

Mexican Saturday: Chicken and Rice burritos on whole wheat tortillas

Crockpot Sunday: Shredded BBQ Sandwiches

So do you categorize when it comes to menu planning?

If so I would love to hear about how it works for you.
