Saving Simply: Avoid ATM Fees

I will confess that I used to just visit any old ATM that was close to me. Even when I could clearly go to my own but would rather pay the fees than drive across town. Honestly I am not really sure what I was thinking. Just a few years ago I got charged $2.50 by the ATM company AND $2.50 by my bank for using an ATM that was not affiliated to my bank. $5 a pop because I was too lazy. I am not sure what ATM fees are these days but I can’t imagine they are any better.
Now the only time I visit an ATM that is not affiliated with my bank is if we are out of town and I just need to get more cash. However before I would use an ATM that would charge me fees I would see if the town we were in had a Walmart or Target where instead I can get cash back with my debit card when making a purchase.
If you happen to be like I was and just let all those ATM fees slide for convenience sake, I promise you will be much happier using that money for something else.
