My Shopping 4/8 through 4/14

this does not look like $92 in food does it? I have to say I am getting better and dealing with the higher prices and I just keep telling myself, we are eating SOOOOO much better.
The highest thing here was the box of free range, hormone free, antibiotic free Chicken Breasts at $9. The milk comes in second at $6.50 a gallon followed by a pound of organic butter at $4.50 and 2 pkgs handmade cheese on sale for $3.50 a pkg. So for only 5 items we are already at $27.
I will say that the chicken breasts are delicious as well as the milk. The butter is used sparingly around here but the taste is definitely worth the price and those handmade cheese…..they melt in your mouth!
So my total at Kroger was $92

I stopped in Fresh food for some produce.
My total spent was $7.24

Then I ran into the Hostess Bread store to grab some more bread.
Total Spent $4.40

I am missing one of my Walgreens receipts. I did 3 transactions and started with no Register Rewards. We were down to no razors and no mouthwash so I had to buy these somewhere.
My total spent was $24.05 and I have $12 in Register Rewards for next time

Then a trip to CVS . I am working on getting things stocked back in in our small household stockpile. Yes I have enough laundry detergent and dishwasher tabs to last at least 6-8 months but all the other things have been slowly dissipating.
Once again I started with no Extra Care bucks since I haven’t been doing the drugstore deals in a couple months.
My total Spent was $8.09 and I still have $7 in Extra Care Bucks

Then on the 12th I was in town for my Tuesday get together with my family and I stopped in Fresh Foods again to get a little more produce.
Total Spent $7.43
My grand total spent for the week was $143.21
This leaves me with $56.79 to finish out the payday.

[...] are normally a soft taco kind of family however when I was shopping last week I found one box of Garden of Eatin taco kit marked down at Kroger. So Monday I planned to have [...]
looks great! it does take a few weeks to mentally adjust to the new prices, but now that I’ve been shopping this way for a few months it doesn’t phase me anymore
How much chicken did you get for $9? I went shopping yesterday, and spent around $13 for 4 organic, free range boneless chicken breasts. I’ll start buying pastured chicken at a local farm this summer though, and their prices are better.
Also-I watched a great documentary last night, King Korn, and it shows the problems/dangers of grain fed beef, and hfcs-highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet! It’s streaming on Netflix if you have it
Sara I am definitely starting to get used to it. At first I found myself feeling guilty about spending more money than I used to but I just had to keep reminding myself how much better we are feeling.
I got 5 chicken breasts for the $9, I honestly don’t know if that is good or bad since we have very little option for meat around here in our local stores.
I am looking forward to visit our Farmer’s Market as soon as it opens and seeing what local options there are that I don’t know about yet.
I have not watched King Korn but we do have Netflix streaming and I am sure my hubby will want to see it. Thanks for the suggestion.
My husband is not really on the healthy eating bandwagon over here, but he really enjoyed King Korn-it’s very entertaining, and he was even telling his dad about some of the things in it, so it did make an impact on him
And I posted this on my blog, under your comment, but I just watched a disturbing short video that’s about the commercial feed lot/slaughterhouse industry. It really makes you think about where our meat is coming from. It’s pretty explicit so I wouldn’t watch it around young kids, and it will make you cry (I actually got sick to my stomach). But, I think it’s important for us to see things like this, so we know where our food is really coming from!

Hi Sara, I haven’t gotten a chance to watch this little video yet but I will. My girls who are 12 and 15 are on Spring break and they are around me from morning til night and some nights they are staying up longer than me.
Anyway my computer is right in the living room and a nice big monitor that is facing so everyone can see it. (we have it set up this way so we can monitor the girls computer time) So I will have to wait until I manage to stay up longer than them.
Thanks for sharing the information.
