A Shopping Guide to Dollar General Store
The Dollar General Store is not somewhere I shop very often. Although I have one very close to me (within maybe 3 miles), I have a Fred’s just around the corner and it is very similar to Dollar General. So for instance if we have a birthday party to go to and I need a card and tissue paper I will just run over to Fred’s. However Dollar General often has some great deals:
Things You Need to Know when Shopping Dollar General:
- Every price is not necessarily a good deal! Just because Dollar Store is in the title it dosen’t mean that it is always the best price. I often find items that cost more than they would at Walmart or Target.
- Check their weekly fliers! Even though they do not have ALL of the very best prices in town I often see many items that are at a great price even if you don’t have coupons. If you have a Dollar General Store close to you then they are definitely worth checking out.
- Dollar General Store accepts coupons! They accept regular manufacturer coupons as well as internet printable coupons providing the coupon scans. If the coupon won’t scan they won’t take it. They also will not take a printable coupon for a FREE item. They will however take a printable coupon for a buy one get one free item.
- Dollar General Store has a corporate coupon policy! In case you have any concerns about using coupons at your local Dollar General Store they now have a corporate coupon policy. If you have had issues at your local Dollar Store when trying to use coupons I suggest printing out the policy and keeping it with your coupons.
- Dollar General offers printable coupons on their website! If you have not visited their website lately they now have a page for printable coupons.
What are my thoughts on Dollar General Store?
I think if you prefer shopping in a much smaller store or have one close by you can definitely get some great deals at Dollar General. Just like any other store you will need to watch the weekly fliers and match coupons to the sales. Our Dollar General may be small but they do offer a little bit of everything from dairy to haircare products.
I truly believe that anyone can take the stores available to them and can save money!

The deals there are very hit or miss for me! Although a few months back I saw in their flyer that brown sandals for boys were only $1.75 and my son needed summer sandals for church (they are so cute with his khaki shorts!). Then they rang up for $5 and I showed them in the flier where they were pictured. It was such a big hassle but I’m still proud that I only paid $1.75 for his summer church shoes! (of course haven’t been back since…:-) )
