50 Ways to Save Even if You Aren’t a Coupon Queen (6-10)

6) Get Your Local Sunday Paper: Even if you don’t want to buy 5-10 papers a week it would definitely be worth getting one. It will have fliers for all your local stores so you can check price before you even head out of the house. Often time they have restaurant coupons inside which is great for saving at the drive-thru/restaurant. It will give you one set of coupons to use for items you need without the hassle of having tons of coupons lying around.
7) Shop Your Stores Sales: Of course having the store fliers from number 6 will help you to know what is on sale before you head to the store. Make it a habit to shop for what is on sale that week. Even if I don’t have a coupon I always try to buy what is on sale. For instance I head to the produce section and buy the fruits and vegetables that are on sale that week. I do the same thing when heading to the meat section, freezer section and so on. If you plan your weekly eating around what is on sale you will definitely see a drop in your grocery bill.
8 ) Stock up when your Families favorite items are at their lowest price: Last week I was in Kroger and they had our favorite super lean ground turkey marked down from $2.99/lb to 99cents/lb so I purchased 6lbs. I would have purchased more if there would have been more in the cooler. A couple months ago they had my daughters favorite apple juice for 99cents when it is normally $2.50. I bought 8 bottles. Stocking up when you find super low prices keeps you from paying the high price every time you shop. Plus it is nice to have extra items on hand.
9) Take advantage of Reusable Shopping Bag Credit: Not all stores are doing this but I know in my area Target and CVS do. At Target you can get a 5cent credit for each reusable shopping bag. At CVS you can purchase the Green Bag Tag, which was free this week after extra care bucks. You attach the tag to your reusable bag and the cashier will scan it each time you shop. Every 4th trip you will earn a $1 extra care buck. What stores in your area offer a reusable bag credit?
10) Pay Attention to the Register Screen: I don’t know how many times I have either 1 – caught an item ringing up wrong, 2- noticed a wrong price on my receipt and had to go to the service desk or 3 – got home and realized I paid the wrong price. Seriously it happens all the time. I am sure it has happened to you. Sometimes it is small but sometimes it is big and if you just let it go over time it is really adding up. I try very hard to get my groceries on the conveyor belt and be up at the register when they start scanning so I can watch and make sure my items ring up correctly.
