My Long Overdue Bathroom Remodel

  • Sharebar

I actually had a video of my bathroom redo process….technically I still have the video we are just have uploading issues.  So I decided to go ahead and post the pictures.

This remodel started 1 1/2 yrs ago!  At the end of Summer ‘08 my then 81 year old Grandpa did all the carpentry work for me.  He has been a carpenter since he was a boy and as of today he still isn’t 100% retired.

My teeny tiny bathroom was covered in that ugly vertical pastel wallpaper when we moved in.  There was no shower in the tub and the surround was just pale blue painted walls.

bathroom1

My Grandpa began taking town the surround walls and came across many even more interesting wall papers.

bathroom2

I think the yellow plaid was by far my favorite!! LOL

He gutted the entire surround area and put up new walls of cement board for the tile.

bathroom3

The very old medicine cabinet and sink was removed as well.  I was so glad to get all the old removed.  The bathroom was tiny enough and the old bulky fixtures made it even tinier.

As you can see he replaced the old bulky sink with a much smaller up to date one.  I got this sink kit at Lowe’s and I absolutely love it.  It was only $100

bathroom6

Here is a full view of the sink and cabinet as well as a little bit of my floor.   It did have nasty carpet.  Grandpa pulled it up and put down this fabulous floor.   It is made like the click n lock wood floors however it is a fake stone.  It is very low maintenance!

bathroom7

The bathroom closet was weird, it was set up like a coat closet and had no shelves.  I had Grandpa removed the rod and put shelves in from top to bottom.

bathroom8

The surround tiling was almost complete.  I ended up painting the shutter white and we had a shower put in.  After all this work was done I didn’t do any painting that year.

While my Grandpa was remodeling my bathroom I was painting two bedrooms.  It was nearing fall and I was tired so I left it.  I actually left it until almost the end of summer ‘09.  We spent the beginning of the summer working on the living room and it was a huge chore.

I finally painted the bathroom and I painted it the same pale blue that was on the wall in the above picture.  However I didn’t like it.  So a few weeks ago I painted it again.

I ended up choosing Aegean Blue which was my first choice in the beginning then I chickened out deciding it was too dark.

bathroom9

I got a new shower curtain and painted my picture frames to coordinate.

I also painted this little metal shelf that used to be silver and the wreath that used to be brown and added just a few things for decoration.   I love this color so much better!! I am so glad I made the decision to repaint.

bathroom10

Right now I have a couple more things I need to do.  I broke one of the glass shades to my light fixture so I need to go to Lowe’s to buy new ones.  Also the wall beside the closet is small but bare, I am looking for some kind of art to go there.  In the mean time I am thrilled with my teeny tiny bathroom.
