title pic Tackle it Tuesday: Filling my Walls

Posted by Amber on December 14, 2009

Our living room is a little on the long side.  It is 23 1/2 X 12 1/2 with 9ft ceilings.  When we first moved in there was some pretty hideous floral wallpaper all over those walls.  I stared at them for 3 years trying to decide what to do with them.

This summer we finally got rid of the flowers and now have vibrant green walls.  However I haven’t gotten very far in the “putting up decorative items” department yet.

I have put up a few 10 X13 pics of my girls in simple black frames and other than that I have one collage frame by the front door with the girls in it.  I need a lot more stuff!! I am just so indecisive.

So last week I was trying to figure out a way to display pictures of my nieces and nephews and this is what I came up with.

I took several old picture frames that had broken or cracked glass.  I got a very vibrant fabric that I love and my hot glue gun.  I began by cutting out enough material to wrap each individual frame.

As I wrapped the frames with fabric I pulled it taut and the glued it to the underneath edges.  I did this with 5 or 6 frames of different sizes.  After they were all covered in fabric, I set out a design then hot glued the frames together.  Afterward I took some twine I had on hand and began wrapping it around the frames tightly.  I did it vertically and horizontally across the collection of frames.  Not only did this make the frames sturdier but it gave me what I needed to hold the pictures in place.

Once I was done I hung it right above the computer desk.  This area is between two windows.  Then I added some adorable pictures of my nieces and nephews

I decided I loved this bold print so much that I wanted to add a little to another wall.  I took 2 8 X10 mirrors that had silver frames.  I removed the mirrors and painted the frames black.  I then took the thick cardboard backing and glued the material on to it.  Once it was dried I placed them back inside the frames and on the wall.

There are a couple more ideas I have in my head for this wall.  I would like to create some type of a wall grouping.  I found some cool black wrought iron candle holders, my only problem is that I can’t decide which one I like best.

Hopefully I will decide soon and then I will update with more pictures.

I am also planning to make 2 pillows for the couch with this material.  (as soon as I get a chance)
